How many car lengths/feet do you stay away from the person in front of you?

Unless they've changed the rules again....the old way was the 2 second rule...but..it was changed to the 3 second rule.  It's been that way for at least the last 20 years or so.

when driving, stay about 2 seconds behind. that'll be good enough to pass a driving test. when stopped, i don't know. half a car length should be more than enough
