How many carry on bags can I take on the plane w/ me for domestic flights? What are the measurements?

I have a "suit bag", where I am carrying my tuxedo in and a "big" backpack. I want to take that on the plane. It is a domestic flight.

Most airlines will allow one carry-on bag that fits into the overhead bins of the plane you're flying as well as one additional notebook (computer) bag or purse.  Anything else has to go as checked baggage.
