  1. Go Carters mommy!!!!!!!!!!!!  I'v been with my daughters father for almost 6 years and marriage is just something we don't want right now but I could guarantee that our daughter is very loved and well taken care of.

  2. I know that there are many- however I am VERY grateful that when a young girl/woman gets pregnant out of wedlock, that the children are born.  How many are aborted a year?  Too many zeros to add up-however let me break it down to days for you- 4,000.

  3. Having children in or out of wedlock doesn't mean that they are any more or less loved, or that they are any more or less children.

    Children are children.

What's the deal? Are you going to treat 57% of children like second class citizens?

This question had better be for a school project and not something to use against anybody.

Question for you: What if, Ms. McCain, you were raped in a back alley? Would you have an abortion to save your face or would you have the baby out of wedlock? Think very carefully about your answer...

  4. I have no idea the actual numbers but it's probably close to 20%.

  5. Wed lock is a big delusion.

  6. 1

  7. 2 d**n many!!!

  8. Way too many!

  9. Too d**n many!

  10. a lot...look for stats online

  11. It doesn't matter. I agree with a couple of the people on here, as long as the baby is brought into a loving and caring home who cares if the parents are married or not!!

  12. Way too many and most are born to teenagers who honestly should have waited to have s*x.

  13. Very good point Carter's Mommy!!!!!!

  14. About 4.1 million babies were born in the United States last year, up slightly from 2004. More than 1.5 million of those were to unmarried women; that is about 37 percent of the total. In 2004, about 36 percent of births were out of wedlock.

This was reported for 2006 I know it is much higher now.

  15. 37% in 2005.

  16. The last stats that I saw said 30%, so if there are 4 million kids born, that would be, well, a lot.  You do the math.

Keep in mind that contrary to one poster, most of these children are not born to teenagers, but moms in their 20s and 30s.  Many choose NOT to marry, can't marry for a reason (need Medicaid because they have no insurance) or don't want to marry (piece of paper thing).  Many of these children are actually planned pregnancies.

When you look to the link below, you have to also realize that when the mother was not married, they didn't ASK whether the father was living there and supporting his family, thus resulting in a higher income. That is an example of a self-fulfilling study (i.e. if child born out of wedlock, child is poor because we only use the mom's income). This is often what is reported in the paper, so it's really hard to tease out real information.

  17. Around 37-40%

  18. I JUST read this today in a magazine...it didn't give a number per se but they said it was 40%.

  19. A lot, but I agree with the people who say, "Too d**n bad."

What about women who are raped and choose to have the baby and raise it?

What about the women who leave an abusive marriage or relationship, for the better of both themselves and the child?

Even if it isn't anything as dramatic, as long as the child is raised adequately in a loving home, I don't think it makes a difference.

  20. enough for Maury to have a paternity show at least once a week...too many

  21. Why does it matter ..? People need to get over it .. its 2008 for goodness sake! As long as the child is healthy and cared for it shouldn't matter. Excellent point Carters Mommy .. and Nasty Na its people like you who make this world so shallow.

  22. The same amount of couples that get divorced.

If a child is brought into a warm, healthy, loving home, does it matter?

Edit: well if it really is 40% then that is actually a lot less then the percent of couples getting divorced.

  23. For the first time in US history, more children are born to unwed mothers than not. I believe I read the figure to be 53%.

Please do not hang me for saying that among the black population, that figure is at a whopping 70%!!

    What a shame!

  24. not sure. but does that really matter these days

  25. This article is a couple years old, so the stats could be even higher, but approxiamently 4 in 10 births are out-of-wedlock.  I'll try to find something more recent.

  26. 1 every second

  27. All 5 of mine, lol. Mine are 4, 2, and one month (triplets) and I am getting married next month.
