You have some red and blue chips (which are the same except for their color) in the bag. There are 18 blue chips. If you add one more red chip, the chances of pulling a red at radom increase by something/287, but I forgot what that something is. How many chips were in the bag originally?

  1. Do your homework by yourself!

  2. well in the bag originally was 286 b/c if there are 287 chips after youadded one chip u would subtract 287 - 1 = 286

    your chance is now 1/287

  3. There were originally 286, if when you added one your chances went to x/287

  4. There are 18 blue chips.

287-18=269. That's how many red chips there are.

Subtract 1 from 269=268. That's how many red chips originally.

    18+268=286=Original # of chips.

Or, you can just do 287-1=286. (The denominator of a ratio is the total possible. Since the denominator here is 287, that is the total possible after adding one chip. All you have to do is subtract one.)
