I have heard a lot of christians say that once you are saved that all your past sins and future sins are already forgiven.I dont understand why they think this. Yes I know that my past sins are forgiven but if I sin after I am saved then I still have to repent to be forgiven. No where does it say that you can sin and be forgiven with asking. Nor does it say that you will enter heaven with that sin. You must be forgiven.

  1. No I don't believe that.  If you sin then you lose your forgiveness and have to start over by repenting.

  2. the whole point about being saved is turing away from sin. just because we are saved does not mean that we are immune to sin. we have to try our best not to sin.

  3. The bible says that you should ask for repentance daily. You cannot be forgiven if you don't ask.

  4. I agree with you. Sins are sins.

  5. 112,217,413

    Was I right?

  6. You're right. You have be remorseful and express that remorse to God for forgiveness. It isn't automatic just because you've accepted Christ. I'd like to see some scriptural evidence to back those claims.

  7. I believe if you sin and you know in your heart you were wrong, thats like asking for forgiveness... God knows your heart.

  8. "God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation." 2 Corinthians 5:19

"If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." 1 John:7-9

"I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh." Ezekiel 36:25-26

"Your sins have been forgiven on account of Jesus' name." 1 John 2:12

  9. Why all this drama about the past? If I do something bad, I say sorry and help the person fix it. Once it's fixed I'm over it. There is no logical reason to be stuck in the past.

  10. Gosh! and all this time I thought I had to live right and ask for forgiveness and try to work on my relationship with God and now I find out I don't....which if you think about it would be perfectly fine if you believe you don't ever have to ask for forgiveness once you are saved. Why would you have to do anything else to maintain and build your relationship with God? That's just crazy to think that. Salvation is just the beginning.  That would be similar to thinking that because you decided to go to college that you wouldn't have to do any of the work because just deciding to go is enough.

As far as dying with sin....well I thought about that for a while.  Let's say there is a man who has been a devout Christian for 32 years. He prays, he asks for forgiveness every day, he attends church, he completely tries to live in line with the teachings of the Bible. One day he goes to work and has a really bad day.  A project goes wrong, a coworker is being annoying, his boss is on his case.  On his way out of the office that day he speaks badly about his boss to another worker just to let off some steam. (which is a sin)

--I must speak evil of no man. t*t 3.2

--I must restrain my lips. Pr 10.19

--I must speak words of faith. Whatever I speak that is not of --faith is sin. Rom 10.8 14.23

Then on his way home he is involved in a really bad car accident, never regains consciousness and passes away a few days later....never having had the chance to ask for forgiveness.

Do you think he will go to Heaven?  I believe that he will because for years he maintained a heartfelt and loyal relationship with God and I don't think that one slip up will undo all that he had accomplished in his salvation.

  11. While it is true sin was overcome at the Cross, we still have to acknowledge our sins to another and God.  We still need to ask God for forgiveness.  You are absolutely right, we cannot enter Heaven with unforgiven sin.

  12. if you are a christian you will still sin at least once in your life. everyone makes mistakes in their life. even christians. just because christians believe in god it does not mean were perfect. i am a 15 year old christian who has thought about doing drugs, i have drank alcohol once when i wasn't supposed to and i chugged it. but now i am trying to become a better person. god has made me a different person and now i am acting much nicer to people. and i am trying to make something of myself with a band i play with. so know christians will never say its alright to sin, ever! but yes they will make mistakes and sin sometimes. but god forgives us. he always will

  13. i think they are just full of themselves, its like being trapped in a hole but refusing help because you have already been saved

  14. Yes they are.As a christian your sins have been wiped clean.Good works do not get you into heaven.Only what Christ has done for you.A christian will not stand before God on judgment day.He/she will be found blameless because of what Christ did, not because of anything you have done or did not do.Listen to the song I am yours by Casting Crowns.

  15. I agree with you. Despite my past sins being forgiven, now that i'm saved I still believe that you must ask for repentance. :-)

  16. We are all humans so of course we will sin even after the holy ghost has come over us, and we should ask God for forgiveness!

There are two type of sins, intentional and unintentional!  Sometimes people sin aon purpose and when they ask God for forgiveness they know in their hearts that they will do the same thing again just b/c they can.  And otheres who are actually sincre and try their hardest not to do it again.  God can tell the difference b/c he knows what is lingering in our hearts and how sincre we are!

  17. Great question - I may be mistaken, but in reading all the posts, surprising there was nothing about forgiving others - not that it was central to the question, but you'd think one person would've mentioned it.

    I John 1:9

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

    - Doesn't that mean if we DON'T confess our sins that he won't forgive us ??  I know we're not to add to the word of God or take away, but doesn't that verse basically say "If we [DO] confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins..." ?  So, then, what if we [DON'T] confess our sins ???

    Matt 6:14-15

For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

    - That is so powerful - is that referring to salvation ?  Could be - I don't want to find out on that day - little too late when my eternal soul is in question.  If it's not, I want to "err" on the side of being forgiving - we all know that as we judge, by that same standard are we also judged - same goes for forgiveness - when people transgress against us.

I want to have my Masters degree, no my pHD with honors - in the area of forgiveness.

    I confess my sins daily.

  18. i dont agree.... in the bible yeah.. jesus forgave you of our sins thats why he died on the cross at calvary for us... and yes if you sin you should repent to be forgiven.. gods not just going to say aww.. you sinned i forgive you... you have to ask him to forgive you if you really want his forgiveness then thats what you do.. what i said here is what i mean and its what i go by

  19. In theory, salvation is not a "get out of jail free" card.

Assuming that God is all-knowing, then God is fully aware of both past and future sins... so when you're forgiven, you are forgiven for all of them.

However, if you blatantly sin just because one time a few years back you said "save me Jesus!" then no... you're not sincere and not forgiven.

  20. I do not believe that you can do anything you please and it just be over looked.  Even Paul said, that 'does this mean we should sin so that God's love is proclaimed as he forgives us?  No not at all"

that sums it up for me.

  21. Believing the Gospel of Jesus Christ means that you are forgiven ALL SINS past, present, and future.

Asking forgiveness after salvation is for restoration of intimacy with the Lord, NOT to avoid h**l.

You can't possibly remember every sin that you have in word, deed, and thought.  What you're teaching is unbiblical.

  22. Because when Jesus died on the cross, He took your place. He took all your sins on Himself. But it's not that we start over with a clean slate and are responsible for keeping it clean. Christ's righteousness is imputed on us. That means that God looks at us as if we were as perfect as Christ was.

This is such a blessing, because how could we possibly know every sin that we commit? There are so many we are unaware of that we could not ask for forgiveness for everything. Then Jesus death would have been for nothing.

Asking for forgiveness is not a requirement to be saved, just something that a true believer will do because of prompting of the Holy Spirit. Just like praying, reading the Bible, worshiping, loving etc... those things aren't requirements (or works) needed to be saved, the are a result of being saved.

  23. Yep, forgiveness is not an active perpetual state of being. It is a temporary one, and anyone who says that sins are already forgiven is wrong. God would not instruct us to pray so often if our sins and problems were so easily solved.

Our sins are daily, so should our prayers and asking of forgiveness be daily.

  24. you have to ask for forgivness all the time, just because they are saved doesnt mean sins are forgiven without you asking for them

but i believe through the process of become born again, you have to ask for forgivness

  25. Real Christians believe in everything God says in His word.  1 John 1:9, 10 "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  If we [as in born-again, saved Christians] say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us."  When Christians sin, we must confess our sins to God and ask Him to forgive us.  Otherwise, what need is there for Jesus to be our High Priest in heaven right now?  He is praying for us so that we can continue to receive forgiveness from the Father and receive grace to help us overcome sin in the flesh.  Hebrews 4:15, 16.  God bless and keep repenting, confessing and overcoming 1 John 5:4

  26. Why bother?

More then one religion says that if you are not their religion you are going to h**l. And if we believe in religion then we believe it to be true hence we are all going to h**l!

    yay
