  1. An overcast means clouds cover the entire sky.  Broken clouds means clouds cover at least 6/10 of the sky but not 100 percent.  Scattered clouds means less than 6/10 of the sky is covered.   There are several kinds of clouds.  Cumulus clouds look like big pieces of cotton and are often seen in an otherwise clear sky.  Sometimes the Cumulus clouds get larger and grow higher and can become thunderstorms or even a tornado.  Stratus clouds are those clouds seen on dreary, rainy days.  All parts of a stratus cloud tends to look the same way.  Cirrus clouds are clouds found high in the air and are made from ice crystals.
