  1. Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon, Fitzroy, Geelong, Melbourne, South Melbourne, St. Kilda and Richmond.

    So 9. ("University" competed from 1908-1915.)

    Footscray (later known as the Western Bulldogs), Hawthorn and North Melbourne (later known as the Kangaroos) only entered in 1925.
