i have a 350 turbo trans and i took it apart and in the low reverse clutch pack there were only 4 clutches and steels. i also have a nother 350 turbo i took apart and it had 5 clutches and steels. and my freind told me that there should be 5 of each but in the the first trans i took apart only 4 will fit easly and 5 of each wont even clip on the teath and i was told slight pressure is needed to get the c clip on. but not a force of god to get it to clip. so does the first trans need 5 of each or 4?

  1. Different trannys use different amounts depends on original application. If you are putting two together use the one with more.

  2. if you are overhauling this trans and not checking codes this would be the answer. 4-clutch 4-steel 1 -wave = v6

                                         5-clutch 5-steel 1-wave = v8

the piston in the rear is the determining factor. the plate for the front will also be different due to the roller clutch for low, it is narrower on the v6 than v8 trans.
