How many coats of primer on a purple wall???

I am changing the color of the room to a nice light blue (Valspar Martha Stewart Delft Tile from Lowes) from the purple it was when we bought the home. We have the first coat of primer on right now and it looks really bad... it just looks lavender now to me. SO should we go ahead with another coat or should we just plan to put two coats of the paint on??

  1. Two coats of your finish coat will do the trick.

I have used many brands of paint, and totally agree about the Behr Paint.Best coverage I have ever used, and a good price. 7/31

  2. If you get a primer tinted grey one coat usually does the trick.

  3. 2 Coats of the color you want should do it.I had rented a place that had been painted black!!! and I did the primer and 2 coats of the color I wanted and it came out fine.

  4. If you have used a primer such as Kiltz2 the 1 coat should block the purple. 1 more coat of primer would not hurt at all. You will still need 2 top coats of your desired paint to make it even out and not show highs or lows in the new finish.

  5. Looks like the other 2 answered the question real well for you. However, just for my 2 cents worth, if you haven't already bought your top coat color, I would recommend going to Home Depot and getting their Behr product. They will color match it for you no problem. The Behr product, I have learned, is the best paint out there. It will cover nicely for you - even if you have to do 2 coats. It just is a better coverage, a more even look. Good luck, LT
