How many CAN you, not how many are you allowed to. Has anyone ever been stopped from installing it on more computers? Has anyone got it on more then 4? Thanks.

  1. i have the same version and found that it will only let you install up to 3 sorry not quite 4

  2. that question usually answers itself when ur installing (any) software on the first computer. if it goes through an "activation" as part of the installation and setup, then that's it ur installs are being tracked.

edit: here's the point of activation: software companies have always wanted to physically limit the number of computers you install on, to what is in the license agreement. more recently, they are able to lock the software so their system will not allow you to go beyond that. the activation checks to see if your program has already been activated and if so, charges you for another license if you want to continue. this method is becoming preferred over the "honor system" of the past, for obvious reasons.

i can't tell u for sure on office07 but all of the newer other programs i have did the activation check during install/setup and does not leave it up to you whether u obey the license agreement or not. since nobody seems to be actually answering the question, i guess u'll have to find out by installing it on a test computer... prefereably one that doesn't have any office version already on it and is disconnected from the internet during install and setup. unless this is an academic version that's made for unlimited installs, it should warn u the first time using that u have limited use until activated.

  3. Theoretically you can install software on as many computers as you desire. Legally it may not hold.

No one is really allowed into your home to check without a search warrant but ethically that is your business.

  4. how many computers do u have...more than 4?!

I think it would be fine, and as you say, there is no point of activation; however, i also believe it would not be right to install it on more than it says, as otherwise you are theoretically breaking the law....
