  1. Wall will be 12 courses, each wall, without windows or doors, will need 66 blocks.  You will have to subtract for window(s) and the door.  The half inch head joints and bed joints are already figured into the size of the block if that helps.  You will need some halves for the window opening.   Just order about 265 blocks and take what you don't use back.  Be sure to get at least 5 halves.

  2. 8" goes into 8' 12 times for the height calculation.

16" goes into 8' 6 times for the length of each wall.

    So 12 * 6 * 4 = 288 to build a solid-walled room.

For door allow 2 blocks for width & 10 for height, that's 20.

    For window allow 1 1/2 blocks by 3 blocks, that's 4.5 blocks.

Subtract the door & window space: that's 264.

Don't forget to order half blocks for window & door sides.

That's 8' total height, so 12 half blocks minimum.
