Question:

How many copies of a card can I have in a deck of Pokemon cards?

I've been away from the game for a LONG time, and it has changed DRASTICALLY. Darkness and Metal energies are now Basic energy cards, you can't play Trainer cards on your first turn, etc.

I've been looking through the new rules, but nothing I can find online tells me anything about deck building, and I don't have the money to go buy a starter deck or anything.

So my question is this: Are you still only allowed to have four copies of any specific card, except Basic Energy cards? For example, I can't have more than four Eevee cards, even if they are of different levels, correct?

  1. To my knowledge, there is no limit to how many of one specific card you can have in your deck. I have a deck of my own and a new rule book, and the only limit on the deck is that it has to have exactly 60 cards. That's it.

  2. grow up, pokeman was in the 90s

  3. no more than for of any one card except basic energy.

There are still special dark energy and special metal energy cards and you can only have 4 of each in your deck, but there are also common dark and metal energy cards without the the unusual benefits of the special energy cards and you can have as many of those as you like. You can have 4 Dark Energy (special) and 10 Dark Energy common for instance, in the same deck.

You can only have 1 Pokemon * (like a Mew * or Vaporeon *) in your deck. These cards are very rare and came out with the EX Cards in later sets.

You can only have 4 Pokemon including the LvX versions, so if your playing Infernape from Diamond and Pearl, you can only have say 2 Infernape and 2 Infernape LvX in the deck together with 4 Chimchar and 4 Monferno. If the name is different you can have more than 4 of something so 4 Scyther plus 4 Rockets Scyther. If the name is the same, but the series is different, you can still only have 4, regardless whether they are the same type (grass, fighting etc.) or level or not.

EX cards have a different name to the usual cards, so you can have 3 Gardevoir plus 2 Gardevoir EX in the same deck.

Delta Species are not a different pokemon, so you couldn't have 3 delta Gardevoir, 2 Gardevoir and 2 Gardevoir EX because you would then have 5 Gardevoir and 2 Gardeoir EX.

    Simple in it!
