  1. please don't say neuclear. It's nuclear, from the word nucleus, which means nut in latin.

    31 countries: http://www.world-nuclear.org/info/reacto...

  2. Approximately 144 countries currently have nuclear power generating programs.

  3. over 9000

  4. 40 are either now using or planning to use nuclear power generation, both internationally declared (e.g. France, the United States, etc.) and undeclared (e.g. Iran).

A list (and a map) may be found here:

  5. There were 30 countries with working reactors as of May 2008 according to the world nuclear organisation; 11 other countries either have planned or proposed the building of 1 or more reactors.

The US's dept. of energy largely supports this by also stating 30 countries were generating power from reactors although there published data is older (2004).

The 144 countries mentioned above are members of the IAEA who have signed up to various treaties and agreements but not all member states have active generation programmes.

I think q answers accidentally included the total ("the world") when counting hence his/her '31' opposed to my '30'.

And sorry, Malina, but that link has no info on nuclear power generation at all so I can't comment on where you got 56 countries...

  6. Currently 56 countries operate a total of 284 research reactors reactors .

Sixteen countries depend on nuclear power for at least a quarter of their electricity. France and Lithuania get around three quarters of their power from nuclear energy, while Belgium, Bulgaria, Hungary, Slovakia, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Slovenia and Ukraine get one third or more. Japan, Germany and Finland get more than a quarter of their power from nuclear energy, while the USA gets almost one fifth.
