  1. There was only 1 which was russia, the others were SSR's Such as the Armenian SSR or Uzbek SSR


  2. The countries Former Soviet Union are separated into 4 sections.

    Baltic States:Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia

    New European States: Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine

    Central States: Kazakhstan, Kyrgystan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, And Uzbekistan

  3. There were fifteen:  Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Khazakstan, Tadjikstan, Kirgizia, Azerbaijan & Turkmenistan.  All are independent today.

    In addition, there were various regions - such as Chechnya, South Ossetia, Nagorno Karrabach etc which have caused or are causing problems since the split.  Prediction - it's going to get messy.

    PS - Check those spellings before you quote any of this.

    Russia, Poland (part), Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia, Azerbijan, Khazakstan, Uzbhekistan, Kyrgistan, Tajikistan, (not sure about Turkmenistan), Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Moldavia, and part of Finland.
