192 countries are in the UN.  Then there are three non-members - Vatican  City, Kosovo, and Taiwan.  That makes it 195.

Well, holmes, it depends on what you mean by "country".  What makes a country a country?  Albanians Kosovars say that Kosovo is a separate country, Serbs say it isn't.  Is Northern Cyprus a real, separate country, or just the Turkish-occupied half of the single country of Cyprus?  Is Palestine a country?  It gets complicated; y'know?

Anyway, as shown on the linked wikipedia page, there are 193 generally recognized sovereign political entities:  the 192 member states of the United Nations, plus the Holy See that governs Vatican City.

Frankly i never thought of it before and when i tried to guess i imagined that there are much much more countries than that but thanks for making me think about it.
