  3. 195 fully independent countries, plus their related dependencies

  4. There are 195 countries in the world.  Montenegro is the newest.

  5. well done Charlie Fantastic, what a fantastic piece of cut and paste and not read you have achieved. If you had bothered to look at your very clever answer, you may have noticed that your extensive list does not include Scotland, England, Wales or N Ireland.

So your answer is infact rank rotten.

  6. Interesting. Wish i knew.

  7. no one lknows for sure - 206 participated int he olympics

    AM

  8. 195.

  9. The political face of the world is always changing with new countries coming up as independent or current provinces gaining Independence.

The exact number can be debatable, it lies between 192 and 195 independent countries in the world.

The U.N. as of 2008 has listed 192 countries, which Kosovo is not listed there even though it gained its independence earlier this year from Yugoslavia. Part of the reason you may get different numbers is while some countries recognize other countries as independent, other countries may not, such is the case with Kosovo, while the U.S.A. and many E.U. nations recognize it as a sovereign nation many other countries such as Serbia, Russia and many E.U. nations do not.

While the numbers may seem small in account, most other "thought" to be countries are actually territories or dependencies of other bigger countries and therefor not independent countries.

  10. The US State Department recognizes 194 independent countries around the world, but that list of countries reflects the political agenda of the United States of America. As an example, it includes kosovo  but does not include Taiwan, as China claims that Taiwan (the ROC) is simply a province of China.

Most of the current World Almanacs use 193 countries, which is probably the best answer
