Random question to which i'm currently unable to find the answer. There is a lot of milk in drank in England/UK every day which made me wonder how many cows are milked every day? Anyone know if there are any pointless stats anywhere?

  1. over 10,000 probs

    depends what season it is

  2. all of them, cows have to be milked up to twice a day; or they get severe pains and potential mastitis.

The UK dairy herd is almost back to pre BSE days. the Vegetarian Society website says

'There are around 10 million cattle in the UK, most of which are reared for either beef (beef cattle) or milk production (dairy cattle).

Just over 2 million are adult dairy cows and just fewer than 2 million are adult beef cows. The remaining 6 million are younger animals '

One little known fact is that most cows have artificial insemination, so not only do male cows get eaten most; they 'get no satisfaction' as the Rolling Stones used to say

its no fun being a bull calf

  3. 2 million

  4. You can get a rough estimate from two values:

    1) How many dairy cows are there in the UK?

    2) How often is a dairy cow milked?

    And the answers:

    1) About 2 million (see first source)

    2) 2-4 times per day (second source)

So the basic answer to your question is "all of them", or about 2 million cows. Assuming they're milked twice per day, that's about 4 million cow-milkings per day.

    Hope that...er...helps!
