She doesn't have regular periods, and didn't want to waste money on testing early.

  1. Some tests can detect pregnancy as early as 4 to 5 days before your period is due. But anytime you test before missing a period, you risk testing too early and getting a false result.

Even with “early” tests like First Response you could still get a false negative if testing before you are late with your period. The packaging has a DISCLAIMER that states  ÃƒÂ¢Ã‚€ÂœIn clinical testing, FIRST RESPONSE detected the hormone levels in only 61% of women four days before their expected period, in 83% of women three days before their expected period, in 93% of women two days before their expected period, and in 95% of women one day before their expected period” – considering those statistics AND how much this test costs (it ain’t cheap), why not just wait until you miss a period?

  2. up to five days before u expect your period, but if u do it that early make sure u restrict your fluids the night before and pee early when u first wake up, that way it will be more "dirty" or concentrated i should say, lol. Good luck to you....

  3. I took a pregnancy test about 13 or 14 days after I had s*x and got a negative. Then I took a pregnancy test 17 days after s*x and it was positive immediately. I did just as they suggested with that one first thing in the morning the day after I should have started my period. Hope this helps.

  4. It's not based on when you had s*x but when you ovulated.  Once you've ovulated, the ovum (egg) must be fertilized in about 12 hours before it begins to die.  But to get pregnant, you can have s*x as much as 5 days before ovulation (the sperm can hange a while waiting for you to ovulate).

Once you've ovulated, it takes 5 to 7 days for the fertilized egg to travel to and implant in the uterine lining.  Once implanted, the embryo begins producing hcg.  This hcg signals your body to NOT have your period, and it's hcg that HPTs (and blood tests) look for to determine if your pregnant.

Because of the variations in time it takes between s*x and ovulation, ovulation and implantation, and the rate at which hcg is produced, the rate at which the kidneys will filter hcg into the bladder, and different sensitivities of various HPTs, there is a wide range of just how early an HPT could indicate a BFP.

Counting from ovulation day, 8dpo is about the absolute earliest an HPT could every indicate a BFP.  But fewer than 10% of pregnant women will ever get a BFP that early.  At 10dpo, 40% of pregnant women will get a BFP if they are using the most sensitive tests.  Once you get to 11dpo, the odds raise to about 50/50.  From there, the longer you wait, the greater the likelyhood of a pregnancy will be detected.

If you wait until the 1st day AFTER you expected AF to arrive (15dpo), about 95-99% of pregnant women will get a BFP with just about any quality name brand HPT.

But here's the other half of the equation... even if you've timed s*x correctly to get pregnant, you only have about a 20-25% chance of getting pregnant in any given month.  That means in any given month, the odds are AGAINST you getting pregnant.  That means that when ever you test, you are most likely going to get a BFN.  So from a financial stand point, it only makes sense to wait and give AF at least one opportunity of giving you that BFN for free.

  5. Typically about 12-14 days after conception, meaning 12-20 days after s*x. (Wait until your period is late.)
