There are soooo many interesting things to see in Brussels and surroundings that you can stay there for ages :-)

I think, one week at least is needed to visit the most beautiful and interesting sights in Brussels itself.

If I may, i'd suggest you take a day to visit the little medieval city of Bruges (Brugge) with it's medieval buildings, art, Sunday outdoor flea/antique market and canals.

It's only 45 minutes by train from Brussels and well worth the trip. Brugge is also called "The Venice of the North". The Belgian railroads also offer special prices/packages train + visits of certain sites...all included.
