How many days might you work a month as a substitute teacher?

My local school district will hire you as a substitute teacher for $85.00 a day (with a Bachelors degree) How many days a month might you expect to work? How does being a substitute teacher work?

  1. I work in  CA as a sub. I could work 5 days a week, but I choose to do four b/c I'm also in college and I do need some rest.

    idk It depends. Talk to other subs in your district.

In many districts, like mine, you could work every day.  There are a lot of permanent subs, which means they are in different classrooms practically every day, but they are so well liked and have developed a higher status because of their hard work and dedication.  They receive permanent sub status...There are other districts that are so short on teachers that they actually allow subs to teach classes for the year, but those are in extreme cases of need.  On the whole, you can expect to work as much as you want.  Many teachers call in sick, go on maternity leave, have professional development meetings outside the classroom, etc...
