Question:

How many days until I can hold my baby guinea pigs?

How old do they have to be until I can hold them. They are almost 3 days old. They turn 3 days old @ 3:00 AM...So when can i hold them?

  1. It's actually best if you get them used to being handled as soon as you can. Obviously if the mom is being posessive wait a bit; but if not, go for it. Carefully catching them and holding them for only a few minutes is best. If it's your girl's first kids, I'd recomend running your hands through their bedding before picking them up - once in a while new moms reject a baby that smells different.

    Congrats on the kids! Just keep in mind that they're actually quite quick on those little legs, if they're scared and you're not careful they might bolt to the top of the couch like mine did. :P


  2. i used to breed guinea pigs and you can hold them pretty much after they dry off after being born! They are born with hair and their eyes open, and their mothers will not deny them after being held. I used to hold the babies for a few minutes at a time until they were at least a week old, and then after they were 7 days+ I would hold them for longer periods of time.
