  1. You don't have to go to Culinary School to be a chef, if you have the experience and work hard in the field you can move your way up.  You can go to Culinary School but that doesn't mean you'll be a chef when you graduate, you'll still have to start from the bottom when you start working...unless you open up your own restaurant.  If you do plan to go to school, try a community college or university where you can actually get a degree and it's a lot cheaper.  Independent culinary schools are extremely expensive and offer an Associate's Degree that is worth nothing.....believe me I learned the hard way.  My school took a year...about 6-7 hours a day with no vacation.  Do your research before you get yourself into a $40,000 student loan like I did....good luck.

  2. Depending upon the school... 1 years to 2 years.  Also, some colleges require that you have an internship (obtain some OJT) as part of the degree.

Technically, you can become a chef without a degree.  You just work your way up the chain in the kitchen.

  3. I start school in September and will come out a Pastry chef in 10 months

  4. 2 years at a community college...there is one near me...
