  1. I hope you already know the answer to this...0. Now, how many people die from *police* every year? ...And so therefore which one is a bigger threat to society?

    dboy

  2. ^ not quite so simple.  Your own study you linked starts out with:

"Few individuals who smoke marijuana experience psychosis afterward. However, _when marijuana-related psychosis does occur_"

So yes, marijuana use can and does lead to schizophrenia in some people.

    There's a graph here - http://www.schizophrenia.com/prevention/...

that shows people who smoke before the age of 15 are three times more likely to develop a psychotic disorder, and heavy smokers increase their risk by up to 7 times.

Granted, even 7 times the normal risk for schizophrenia is still a low risk, but you can't say that marijuana carries no risk.

On another point, although there have been many studies showing no correlation between smoking marijuana and lung cancer, there have been studies that DO show correlation between marijuana and mouth and throat cancers, and well as other respiratory diseases.  These are mostly inconclusive at this time, but definitely something to be concerned about.  Here's one - http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/200...

There are other factors of marijuana use, such as delayed reaction times and poor short term memory due to the constricted bloodflow in the brain (which for heavy users often takes more than a month to begin to improve to normal flow levels after the user quits smoking) that I suppose could be construed as leading to real physical danger in the right situation.

Are you going to get hurt or die from smoking weed?  Probably not.  But don't fool yourself into thinking it's 'perfectly safe' or that since it's 'natural' that you shouldn't worry about it.  The simple fact of smoking ANYTHING is bad for you and releases toxins in your body.  Marijuana smoke has been found to contain significantly higher amount of certain toxins than tobacco - http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/200...

Poison Ivy is natural too, wanna smoke it?

  3. Sadly, people like gazzsmith make false claims (lie?) about their expertise.

Gazzsmith's claim regarding the psychotic events after cannabis use and, logically, his/her claim that s/he has some background in working with mental patients must be challenged.

I did a simple google search and found the following:

According to the journal Psychiatric News,

… study does not show that marijuana is a risk factor for young people with a family history of schizophrenia.

    http://pn.psychiatryonline.org/cgi/conte...

SO, people do not die from using weed.

  4. No, you can't die from it, but smoking ANYTHING is harsh on the lungs.

  5. lotsmore than people realize when you include suicide while under drug induced phychosis ,i peronally know of lots of these instances while working with mentally ill people in northern england.........p.s. dont kid your self its harmless and i used it myself years ago , not everybody can get away with it!

  6. No one has ever died from use of cannabis, it's never been medically documented
