How many different "dot" addresses are there... .gov, .org, .com, .net, .tv... ?

How many different ones are there? Serious answers have the only chance at 10 points!!!

  1. Supposedly, now (or in the near future) ICANN is letting anyone with enough money register their very own "dot" address.  So Google would register ".google" and could start having sites like www.search.google.  So now it has the potential to get really out of control.


  2. I don't feel like counting them right now, but here's a list you can count for yourself:

  3. There are the international standard ones (.com, .net, .mobi, .org,. info, .biz... etc) which are all 3 or 4 letters, then there are the ones that belong to specific countries (.us, .ca, .co.uk, .com.au, .mx) which all have the 2-letter country code. So there are hundreds because there is one for every country.


  4. there are most likely hundreds, because where the united states usese primarily .com the UK ususe .co.uk and each country has their own .co.something, at least most of the major and/or developed countries, i'm sure wikipedia has an answer
