How many different species of animals live in the rainforest?

Out of those, how many are undiscovered?

i'm pretty sure there's millions in the rainforest...i tend to watch the discovery channel a lot and i remember overhearing that.

how many undiscovered?  how do we know if we haven't discovered them?  there's probably quite a few though

Tropical rainforests are the most diverse ecosystems on earth. A four-square mile patch of rainforest contains as many as 1500 species of flowering plants, 750 species of trees, 125 species of mammals, 400 species of birds, 100 species of reptiles, 60 species of amphibians, and 150 species of butterflies. More than 50% of the world's plant and animal species inhabit the 7% of the world that is covered in rainforest.

Rainforests are located across the world, generally around the equator, between the

Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn.  Central and South America, Africa, India,

Southeast Asia, parts of Indonesia and Australia all contain rainforests.  

There are many species of plants and animals in the rainforest.  A common estimate is that

approximately half of the world's animal species live in rainforests.  Another estimate is that 25

percent of the world's medicine is derived from rainforest plants.  

Unfortunately, scientists have not been able to research and explore the majority of the rainforest

plants to find all of the possible medicines and new species of plants and animals.  Opinions

differ on exactly how much rainforest is disappearing due to slash and burn farming techniques,

but they are disappearing.
