  1. THERE ARE LITERALLY THOUSANDS, BUT LIKE BRUCE LEE SAYS UNLESS THERE ARE DIFFERENT TYPES OF HUMANS WITH 4 ARMS AND 4 LEGS THERE IS ONLY ONE WAY TO FIGHT. STYLES MEAN NOTHING

THAT'S WHY BRUCE LEE WAS THE GREATEST

  2. Thousands upon thousands, and within each style or type each individual slightly alters the art to meet their personal needs and to fit with their body type and movement and fighting style.

By the time you consider that, it is more like millions. When you include mixed martial arts and the likes of Jeet Kune Do and the various ways to approach and apply them there is no real number to apply.

  3. around 50

  4. There are so many types, and then different styles within those types, and then there are personal changes that each individual makes to the style they learn,.....you get the point.

  6. It depends on how you define "martial art."

Using one definition, there are as many martial arts as there are martial artist. Everybody is unique and has their own personal quirks and preferred methods.

Using another definition, there are THOUSANDS.

Using a third definition, there are only TWO:

    EMPTY HAND techniques and

    WEAPONS techniques.

    .

  7. a lot

  8. Striking

Punching - Boxing (Western), Wing Chun

    Kicking - Capoeira, Savate, Taekwondo

Other strikes (e.g. Elbows, knees, open-hand) - Muay Thai, Karate, Shaolin Kung Fu

    Grappling

Throwing - Glima, Judo, Jujutsu, Sambo, Shuai jiao

Joint lock - Aikido, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Hapkido

    Pinning Techniques - Judo, Wrestling

    Weaponry

Traditional Weaponry - Fencing, Gatka, Kendo, Silambam

Modern Weaponry - Eskrima, Jogo do Pau, Jukendo

Many martial arts, especially those from Asia, also teach side disciplines which pertain to medicinal practices. This is particularly prevalent in traditional Chinese martial arts which may teach bone-setting, qigong, acupuncture, acupressure (tui na), and other aspects of traditional Chinese medicine.[2]
