I had a normal Green male / Lutino hen. She laid 12 eggs. Only 8 of the 12 hatched. Two died while pipping and two were clear. I look for hens that consistently lay 6-8 eggs for my breeders. For parakeets to raise big clutches you need to help them by giving them some egg food.

What they do is when it comes time to feed the parakeets will feed the least first. They get the cream if you will. Then as they progress through their feeding they use up all of their crop milk and go and fill up on seeds. They will after a few minutes start to feed the partially digested seeds to the next in line to be fed. By the time they get to the oldest birds they are just eating seed and carrying it to the babies and feeding it to them.
