Question:

How many euros to get to ireland and set up?

I plan of moving from Australia to Ireland for a period. I'd like to start in London and visit friends end then go to Dublin. How many euros do you reckon I'll need to settle in, eg find some accomodation and get work. I'm not sure what the rental prices are like but I would to be in an area probably in the inner-city, hopefully in to some share accomodation.

Anyone got any info and/or ideas?

Thanks

  1. Well, the average rent for a one-bed apartment is €1000 - €1500 a month. Depending on the area but any decent (safe) are will cost about €1200. You will almost always need the months rent in advance and a deposit of one months rent. Flat sharing is definately worth looking into. The website http://www.daft.ie has a section for this. Or try http://www.gumtree.ie for a kind of classified approach. This could bring rent down to €600 a month.

I don't know what field of employment you are in. If you have some kind of professional qualification you should register with some agencies who will be able to greatly speed up the process of finding work.

If you have no particular trade or are looking for casual work, bar-tender, cleaner, cashier you may find yourself out of a job for a while. It's just that for every job it seems there are 12 people ready, willing and able to take it. If this kind of employment is what you're looking for the National Minimum Wage is €8.65 an hour.

So I wish you the best of luck and as for how much money you will need to live on until you earn a wage,  my husband and I spend an average of €70 a week on food and that's for two of us. Just to give you an idea. Here's some links that should be useful.
