  1. What?! This is like saying how many car crashes do you have to have before you are a proper driver? None!!

  2. at least 1

its a question of whether on get back on again

that's what makes you a rider

  3. the number of falls you have does not make you a rider. knowing how to ride, how to handle your horse, how to take care of your horse etc.  A good rider takes the time to develop a "bond" with their horse, have taught their horse to respect and obey their authority, which gives you better control over the horse.  A calm, confident animal that depends on its rider is not born that way, you know, it is trained. So therefore a good rider must also be a good trainer.  So again, the number of falls you have do not "make a rider"

  4. I would have thought if you successfully rode through one Autumn then you would be a pretty good rider  !!!!!!!

  5. The old wives tale is 3 falls make a rider - in which case I must be Harvey smith!!!!!

  6. there is no figure to this question what makes you a rider is experience and the falls come with experience some riders may say the first seven but this iam sure is more superstition than fact.

  7. getting back on after a hard fall just proves courage and guts,it is no indication of competence.the good rider learns from the fall, the reasons why,the way to avoid that situation again etc.so in answer to your question, there is no number, the only limit is the limit of the riders ability to learn from mistakes made.

  8. I've had too many to mention

  9. Just because you havent fallen off yet doesnt make you not a true rider, but the entire time ive been riding ive been told the more times you fall off, the better rider you become. So now dont go around trying to fall off, but when you fall off, get back up, dust off your butt, and climb back on knowing youve learned for the experience. Now go enjoy the love of a horse.

  10. I always heard 7 falls makes you a rider.

I've fallen off more times that I can remember, so that must mean I'm fantastic!!!  Although - and I'm very proud of this fact - all my falls have been over jumps.  I have NEVER been bucked off, reared off or generally thrown on the flat.  Maybe I've just been lucky.
