  1. Hm for a 5 gallon I would say no more than 3.  Female bettas develop a "pecking order" where one female is dominant.  But if you just have 2 females, one will be bullied.  So for a 5 gallon i would say get 3.  But make sure it has PLENTY of hiding places so your submissive females dont get picked on too much and get their fins nipped.  As far as shrimp go, they don't really clean the tank as well as you might assume.  Especially for a 5 gallon its easier to just do water changes.  Also depends on the size of the shrimp.  The tiny ghost ones for 33 cents make a better snack for the bettas than a maid lol.  Also depend son the bettas personality.

Here's what i recommend.  Buy 3 bettas for the 5 gallon, and buy the ghost shrimp and see if the bettas eat them.  Its okay since they are less than 50 cents so if they clean the tank, great.  If not, they become nutritious snacks for your fish and will make them very happy.  Good luck with your bettas!

  2. I say 5 max with the shrimp. Im not gonna be mean, im only 12 here! I have a few females in a 37 with other fish, so 3 females, but have a separate tank ready if any of the females become to aggressive. Watch and see who the aggressive one is and take her out.

I find all female bettas to be so pretty. They are all petite and have cute light colors. I went to the pet store and found a turquoise female, she is really pretty!

Make sure you cycle the tank with no shrimp b/c they are very sensitive to ammonia. It is best to have the tank slightly overstocked to prevent fighting.

    Good luck!

  3. im only 11 to!!!! i wouldn't be mean trust me ive had alot of mean answers!!! im a fish beginner to ive had bettas in the past and i breed guppies but im so happy that im not the only younger person here!!!!! sorry i didn't answer your question but im sure you can put a snail in there with my bettas!

  4. I would not recommend putting females together in that small area. I keep mine in a 30 gallon and they still fight occasionally. you can never have less than 4 females together or if there is 2 one will attack the other, if theres 3 2 of them will gang up on the other. I would recommend a tank that is at least 10 gallons in that tank 4-6 would be best.

if you can only use the 5, consider getting a divider and putting just 2 females in it. if you get females they like hide holes and plants :) good luck.

I have kept ghost shrimp with male Betta's in tanks as small as 2 gallons but every fish is different. some will attack the shrimp others could care less. it really depends on the fish, but if it gets eaten then at least they are not expensive :)
