How many fights do you have to win in boxing to get a title shot?

It kind of depends. If you are fighting a bunch of bums, you aren't going to get a title shot in your immediate future. You would atleast have to beat a few valid title contenders. And to fight those contenders, you'd have to beat people who could compete against those contenders.

And then there is the business of rematches, ect.

I'd say your looking at no less than 17 professional wins.

nowadays it seems that the less you win and the less talented you are the more likely you are to get a shot...  calzaghe vs jones????? jones is so far past it that after 3 months of training id be willing to bet on my 86 yr old granny... she may not win but shed go the distance for a split decision...

it just depends on how good you are.. theoretically if you can beat all the other deserving fighters you will get a shot... or if you generate a lot of hype and ppv dollars they will usually give you a chance..

only one. Once you beat whoever is ranked number one for the title, you automatically get a shot. For the list of rankings go to the title belt's website. It is up to you to decide when you are ready for that one fight. Some people wait until they are 30-0 others 10-0 how many fights it takes is technically up to you.

first off you need a great promoter or forget about it until your a mandatory contender which would mean beating every ranked guy ahead of you till you reach the number one spot.

with a good promoter i say after 17 with a little tv exposure you should be in the mix

Its not about wins. its about rankings. you can have W100 L0 KO 100 if you fight taxi drivers and male prostitutes, but you have to beat boxers in the top 10 of the rankings.
