  1. I say if the tank is well planted, 3 female Betta's and 2-3 african dwarf frogs.

  2. put 1 betta. that's all i can tell you.

  3. not trying to be mean trust me! (lots of people are mean to me) but i think that would be a little too much. Eel can get pretty long so if you for sure want to get an eel you can get another tank and out it there...gouramis get pretty big too sorry but they wont fit either. 2 platies thats fine you can get those! and maybe some other combinations to go with your 2 platies are

    2 platies and 2 mollies

    2 platies, 1 molly, 1 swordtail

    2 platies and 2 swordtails

2 platies and a school of small fish like tetras or guppies 5+

    or

    4 platies

  4. A 5 gallon is awfully small. I would put one betta only if you like betta's. You don't have too much of a selection of possibilities with such a small tank.

  5. It depends on the type of fish you have.  Some like more personal space than others!  Once you decide what kind you want to get, find a good informational website on caring for them and it should definitely tell you.  Or you can ask someone at the pet store when you buy them and the tank.

  6. ask the place where you get your fish how big they will grow, most grow to a specific size or according to the living space.  you should be fine with either set up, just don;t over fill with ordiments and plants.  they need some, but they need room to swim around.

  7. Not many. The general rule is about one gallon per one inch of fish, so about five inches of fish. Use http://www.fishlore.com/ to research fish you may want to buy, as it will tell you the lengths the fish will get. Good luck!

Edit: Yikes! The kissing gouramis can get up to 12 inches! Not good. The platys only get to about 2 inches, so you probably could get two of those. No eel though. They also get to 12 inches. Sorry.

  8. 5 gallon is a small tank, stick to just the 2 platies.

The kissing grouami and the peacock eel are both going to need a 55gal in time.

  9. Kissing gouramis are one of the largest gouramies they can get 8"

So going by the basic rule 1 galon per 1" of fish which not always works, I would not suggest putting more than one kissing gourami.

Or you can go with two platys they should be fine. Or 4-5 small schooling tetras. I have never had a tank that small. The smallest I had is 29 gal and my fish grew very fast now I have to go bigger. Also everybody who keeps fish will tell you the bigger the easier to maintain water levels.

Will you have this tank filtered?

  10. For healthy fish, a maximum of two. In freshwater, a cleaner could also be added.

  11. Yes that is ok

  12. it depends on the volume of the fishies and also their shape

  13. First off, 2 Kissing Gourami more than likely will fight.  Gourami are in the same family as Betta and unless its a breeding pair, the more dominate will chase the other to submission and even death...the "kissing" is actually a sign of aggression.  These fish also get big...mine is already 7 inches.  And I expect he will grow.

2 platys are ok, but make it 2 males OR 2 females...you dont want lots of fry...especially in a small tank.

    No eel...too small of tank.

In a 5 Gallon you could do the whole 1 Betta.

Or you would actually do about 5 neons if you have a filter and heater.

If you insist on getting a Gourami...put 1 Dwarf Male Gourami by themselves in the tank.  They are community fish, but again will show aggression to another Dwarf Gourami, especially in such a small space.  I would just do one Dwarf Gourami in this size tank...they only grow to 2 - 2 and 1/2 inches.

And its great you want a variety of fish, but they will die in such a small enclosure with each other.  Sorry, need at least a 30 gallon tank with lots of hiding for these fish.

    Best of Luck!

  14. 1 betta

5 small schoolers (danios, tetras etc)

  15. maybe 2 betta fishes, never a goldfish though!!!
