  1. Whoa. Thats a big pond. Are you starting a fish farm?

  2. 10,000 gallon pond?  Seriously?  Wow that's big.

I know the rule of thumb for aquariums is 1 gallon for every 1" of fish.  So, depending on the size of the fish you want, (keep in mind the full grown size of the fish you are buying) that is  a  lot of fish!!

  3. Also keep in mind that pond fish need more space than tank fish would. ( dont ask me why they just do ) Just estamate a little more. I would get a pike or a musky or somthing cool for a huge pond like that. Other smaller peacefull fish would be toast .  It would be great to watch though lol !!!  Whatever you do good luck with it.

  4. To be perfectly honest - this is the wrong question.

IMHO - the better question is "how many fish should I add to my pond on a yearly basis?"

If you have a new pond - then I would suggest adding only 5 to 8 fish.

This is as much as any one can keep in ones brain.

With a backyard (or close to home pond) - you will bond with the fish and come to know their individual personalities.  This is part of the joy of pond ownership.   You will find who is the ringleader.  Who is the shy girl.  This is the fun.

So - start slowly - and start adding fish that are unique - so that it is easy for you to tell them apart.  If you get males and females - well then - the pond will only grow in population.

    Enjoy!

  5. You can put 200 koi and/or commons, or  1200 Fancy's, 750 comets

or a combination 350 comets and 100 koi

Just remember this many fish will reproduce and you will end up with more young than you know what to do with.

Also, when choosing koi, 5 females to every male, same with comets.

If possiable always more females than males or all males.

  6. it depends... if you want a bunch of fish.. say 100, u can get a bunch of goldfish, and raise them from babies. if you want a few fish say, 5, u could get some big fish like bass, koi, bluegill, you could have a mini ecosystem.. have some fun with it, and get fish that you like.

  7. wow very big pond 50 kois will do inorder to give good quality water less water changes.
