Just bought a 90 Gallon to upgrade my 55 ----> 90 and now im thinking of adding some fish.

Currently i have......

4" Blood Red Parrot Cichlid

4" Green Severum

9" Sailfin Plecotomus

2" Convict Cichlid

2" Saluni Cichlid

1.5" Green Terror Cichlid

In another tank i own i also have a pair of jack dempseys......

Female 1.5"

Male 2"

With this being said....im thinking of adding these two into the 90 along with my current fish already in my 55 which would equal 8 fish..... I would just like to know how many fish people think i should be putting into a 90 gallon???

I would just like to know if all the fish i have together would be to much.....or if i could even add more fish adtional to the fish i already have.

Please let me know

Thanks

  1. you should have 1 gallon for 1inch on fish so you should be able to have 90 inches on fish in the tank

  2. if you have a 90 gallon tank (as long as thier saltwater) you can put way more fish in the fish tank than what you have

  3. Ryan,

Your aggression levels in this tank is going to go off the charts here.  I wouldn't for several reasons.  It's not a matter of being at capacity really.  There is room for maybe some Loaches or other bottom feeders, but there's some things in your stock listing that has me concerned.

First is that Green Terror.  Green Terror's are called Terror's for a reason.  They will dominate and harass everyone else in there as this is a rule the tank type South American.  That Green Terror is going to cause issues when it grows out with no question about it.

Secondly, while you have a peaceful type with the Severums, (peaceful at least by comparison), you also have those big bulky slow moving Parrots, and a Convict.  If the Green Terror hasn't realized what he is yet, that Convict will soon enough if that's a male and it's going to be a toss up who goes first, the Parrots or the Severums.

Thirdly, NOT all cichlids are massive waste producers.  To Rick's defense, yes some are, and in this listing, your biggest waste producers would probably be the Parrot Pair and the Pleco.  You can compensate for waste output with heavier and dual filtration.  If you went and added a male and female pair Jack Dempsey's, you're just going to cause even more aggression in that tank.  South Americans are not quite like Africans where your goal would be to overstock to keep aggression in check.  That would be adding a second rule the tank type South American in there, and well, that's not a good thing in this case.

Some people have been able to keep rule the tank types with lesser aggressives, but I don't reccomend it.  If you feel compelled to get Dempsey's I'd just give them their own tank.

  4. I would not get any more fish. The fish you have in the tank get big and you will eventually have to upgrade again. The jack dempseys should stay in their own tank.

  5. get another tank. the amount of fish is important not too be to many. too much urine and stuff will most likely mess up you ph balance and could cause fish loss.

  6. You could add some more fish, but I wouldn't suggest it. Many of those cichlids will be aggressive as the mature. I really wouldn't add anything else, or plan on it. They will be nearly fully stocked and the aggression is going to be hard to manage unless your fish turn out to be pacifists.

The 1 inch per gallon rule is nonsense. You will also need heavy filtration for those fish, cichlids are massive waste producers.

  7. Your tank is already fully stocked at 90 gallons, no more fish! All the fish you have will get quite large!
