Im starting a 20 gallon long saltwater tank. I really want 4 fish. Is 4 + clean up crew ok for a tank this size or is it too many?

I was thinking 1 clownfish, 1 purple firefish, 1 lawnmower blenny and 1 clown goby. Im not sure if these fish will be good tank mates for eachother or not. If not then i can always change my stocking plans

Oh also, i have a 10gal sump refugium.

can anyone help me?

  1. Um, I'm no expert when it comes to saltwater but four sounds okay.

Remember to cycle for 6 weeks and have water parameters in check.

  2. gobies and firefish and clown fish are compatible i have checked in my marine books lol good luck :)

  3. you can keep at least 10fish in yore tank because the fish you want are small and inactive the extra space is a waste

  4. it sounds ok but the lawnmower will get a little big..

were you keeping it for algea control or because you like them?

if for alge just get a few emerald or sally lightfoot crabs

otherwise it's sounds ok as long as your filtration is on par

  5. Well you need a pair of clown fish as they are happier in pairs. Also, clown fish need a 30 gallon tank...minimum. Plus the other fish you need a 50 gallon, there is no saltwater fish that can fit in a 20 gallon tank comfortably. Period.

  6. The general rule for salt water fish is 2.5 inches of fish per gallon of water.

So you could fit 8 in of fish which is not a lot of fish
