  1. we get a forage mix, tied with twine not wire and we get about 12 flakes a bale. Our alfalfa is the same. It can vary depending on how the flakes break off, but for a decent flake that weighs 4lbs, we get 12.

  2. Around ten.

  3. it seems that the average amount of flakes per bale is 12, sometimes you can get up to 18 flakes, or as small as 10 flakes.

  4. It can really vary. I do feed in the mornings and afternoons at my stables when I work and it depends on how thickly the bales are cut. Some deliveries/bales are cut really thickly and one flake is about the size of two flakes and we have to hack them apart a bit, sometimes we have to feed the horses two flakes to get the right serving size (and then lug another bale out from the feed shed)

Average for a good size cut bale is about 12-14.

  5. Usually 12 for me

  6. it's not how many flakes of hay on a bale that are important...it's how much the bale weighs and what kind of hay it is.

The hay that I bought is 3/4 timothy/ 1/4 fescue and the bales weigh 85 yo 90 pounds a piece. Paid $6 a bale for it and that includes storage and delivery.

  7. my bales have about 14 laps

  8. that depends on the quantity of hay on the ground as the baler works,

if it is thick crop of hay, there will be less segments  but thicker,  if it thin quantity on the ground there will be more segments but thinner,

the baler can be set to make different sizes of bales,  also can be set to  make loose, or compact bales.

best buy is a compact, solid bale  = more hay

  9. there should be about 15 flakes per

  10. about 18 depending on the bale

  11. 13-14 flakes
