Question:

How many frets can a guitar have?

My Fender only has 22. I was just looking at the tab for Seek and Destroy by Metallica and there is a note played on the 28th in the solo. At first I thought it might have been a mistake but the tab was rated by like over 200 people so I'm sure it's right. I just didn't realize guitars have that many frets. Is there a limit on how many frets can be on a guitar? or what is the most you've seen?

  1. acoustics have 20

some electics have 21 or 22

Guitars used for Metal like ibanezs have 24

ive never heard of a guitar with 28

  2. MOST GUITAR NECKS  HAVE TWO OCTAVES     FROM HITTING THE STRING OPEN  TO THE  12TH  FRET IS ONE OCTAVE AND SO ON

  3. Most guitars have either 22 or 24 frets.  I'm sure that it is possible that someone could have a guitar custom made with more frets, but they will be expensive and quite uncommon.  I'm guessing the tab has an error.

  4. Mine has 68! j/k

Guitars are typically 21, 22 or 24 configurations.
