  1. parrot cichlids can only go with other south american cichlids. Oscars, dempseys, midas, green terrors, convicts, etc... (although oscars, midas, and dempseys get VERY big and VERY territorial)

I never recomend keeping blood parrots alone. You would want at least three of them in one tank. For three, you COULD go with one fifty five gallon, but that would be pushing it. I would say at least 75 gallons.

Remember, these fish are cichlids and get very big. Male blood parrots can also get very territorial and attack intruders (I've had males attack my arm and leave marks whenever I've had to stick my hand in their tank!)

EDIT: No to the tetras or any other tropical community fish! LIke I said, blood parrots get pretty big, and can be pretty mean. Even though they have small mouths and can't EAT larger fish (although a 3 inch tetra is small compared to them), they can still give nasty bites and easily kill other fish

  2. While this will depend largely on the size of the parrot cichlid, I would recommend 10-15 gallons of water for each fish.  For 2-3 cichlids, no less than 42 gallons.

Black Skirt Tetras do make suitable tankmates for Parrot Cichlids.

  3. I would consider a 40 gallon tank the bare minimum, but a 55 gallon tank would be much more comfortable.  Black Skirt Tetras would be safe, as they are fairly large, and the Parrots' mouths are fairly small (due to the mutations).  However, I would recommend getting about 5 more Black Skirts to give them a decent school (you'll have room if you get the proper tank).

EDIT: The reason Purfect has trouble keeping other fish in her tank is because the Parrots are already stressed from the gross overstocking!  These are territorial fish, but a school of Tetras won't draw much attention in a well decorated, well stocked tank.  Also, there is little reason to keep them in large groups-- they aren't nearly as social as some other South American Cichlids like Angels or Discus.

EDIT 2: Blood Parrots do not exist in the wild, they are human induced hybrids!  Also, Jellybean Parrots are injected with dyes using hypodermic needles after having their slime coats stripped with a chemical bath... hardly what I would call humane.

  4. no i wouldnt put them with any fish thats under 3 inches adukt size

wa can grow up to 8 inches if u mean parrots they are no a wild fish they are highbreads and they are not from rivers they have been made in a lab somewhere and colour dyed as well so they are completly fake

  5. oh those parrots are mean and you will lose the little tetras..

I have 7 in a 60 gal and no one else can live with mine...no one.

I bought 6 medium size bala sharks one time and  they were all gone the next day.  Not a bone left in the tank.

In the wild they can grow up to 8inches.

They have some new varieties out called a 'jelly bean cichlid'. I am trying to get some here in Calif..
