  1. There's not an answer. I'd have to research every single commercial service aircraft only to average it, to give you a number that's inaccurate.

Different aircraft hold different amounts of fuel. To give you an example that's relatable to the question; my Jeep holds 19 gallons of fuel, the S-10 pickup I learned to drive in held 10, my mother's Mustang held 15, my brother's BMW held 14, the half ton truck I used to have held 36, my cousin's Suburban held 40, and the F350's I use for work have 38 gallon tanks, (not counting the 100 gallon aux tanks.)

That comes out to 24.57 gallons for the "average" car.

    Are you talking a Cessna 414? Or a Cessna 172? A Lear 25 or 45? A Citation II or a Citation X? Which model of the 737, or DC-9?

If I consider the aircraft that are on lease-back for training as commercial, the numbers get really wonky.

There's not an answer to your question.

Specify an aircraft make and model, and I can usually get you pretty close to how much fuel they can take.

  2. it depends how far they are flying

  3. i hope you're not a terrorist!

    a dc-10 holds 21,700 gallons of fuel

if you want to look at other planes, go here:

    http://www.boeing.com/commercial/dc-10/t...

  4. About 7500 gallons in a B727.

  5. Depends on the route. A airplane going from NY to LA will have more fuel on board then one going from NY to Boston they hold alot though i know.

  6. Aircraft usually measure fuel with pounds, since it is easier to add on to the cargo and passenger weight. But I agree with the other answers, go to Boeing's website and check out the very common models like the 737, the MD-80, the 757, the 747, and the 767. they will give you all the aircraft's demensions, weight, fuel capicity and etc. Also try Airbus' website.
