  1. It really depends on the quality of the crude.  It's impossible to give a number.  Besides, you can make other things out of the part that you don't use for gas.


  2. crude has many uses besides gasoline and diesel. these are just the two uses that you think about when you think of oil.  

    tar, asphalt, plastic, and lubricants also come from petroleum, and then low grade refining leftovers are still sold off as fuel oil, not to mention that LPG is even profitable in some areas now.

    so no, the oil company is not taking a 60 dollar loss on the barrel. they are coming out nicely.

  3. So Fighter, you are saying the oil company buy's the oil at $120 a barrel, makes 21 gallons of gas and sells it for $4 a gallon for a $60 loss per barrel? I doubt it unless I'm missing something.

  4. Currently about 50%.  But because gasoline is so expensive (or profitable), they are looking for more way to convert higher % into gas.

    P.S.  A barrel is 42 us gallons (even though people call them 50 gal barrel).
