  1. A 25 pound bag of ice contains just over 3 US gallons of water.

  2. If the mass of the bag is m, the density of water is p_w and the density of ice is p_i than

    V_i = m/ p_i

    V_w= V_i p_w/p_i

    = m p_w/p_i^2

    typically p_w is 1 g/cm^3

    V_w = m/p_i^2

  3. It depends on what size the bag is...

    water/ice weighs just over 8 pounds per gallon

  4. 3 gallons for a very large bag.

    1 gallon for a medium bag.

    1/2 gallon for a small bag.

  5. You can, of course, reverse this question and run the experiment yourself.

    Buy a bag, let it melt.  Measure the liquid.

    As for the question itself - most bags are 10 lb or 25 lb/  At 8 lbs/gallon, the smaller bag is 1.25 gals.  The larger is 3.125 gal
