I am going to buy some in the next couple of days, and since baby hasn't arrived yet, I don't know how many he will need.

So, how many smalls did/do you use and how many meduims? Also, how many covers and extra plastic liners did you use?

Thanks!

  1. For newborns you'll probably end up changing a diaper at every feed, so about every 2-3 hours for the first couple of weeks.  After that you might keep the same 2-3 hours with changing a diaper, or you may be able to go 3-4 hours between changes.

In theory you can reuse the same liner through several wet changes as long as the diaper isn't becoming soaked all the way through.  The same goes for covers, unless you have a poopy blow out.  For a newborn I would suggest having enough extra liners for a day's worth of diapers, because of the irregularity of your baby's bms, the meconium, and just general problems that need to be worked out.  You probably won't need all of those liners in one day, but worst case you can use them all and wash them at night (or have your significant other do it for you).

I would suggest the same for covers.  Have enough for a day's worth of diapers (probably 8 or so).  That way if you do have horrible diaper messes or spit up messes you can just wash them all at night and have a fresh batch for the next day.  You'll probably only need a few a day, though.

As for sizes, look at the size of the covers and how big you're baby is going to be.  All babies typically double their birth weight by 6 months and triple it by 12 months.  For bigger babies it tends to happen faster.  My baby born at 8 pounds was 18 pounds at his 6 month check and 22 pounds at his 12 month check.  It's a general guideline you can use to see when your baby will need a bigger size of cover.  For us we would have moved up to a medium when our baby was about 2 months old (he was chubby and 14 pounds then), but he would still be on the border of a medium and a large now and he is 16 months.

  2. I dont use any and everything is working fine for me. Its up to you, I really dont know how many to tell you but we are doing fine without them.
