How many generations are there in one century?

In some cases (unusual at best) such as one of mine,a g.g.g.g. g.grandfather... married three times.  I descend from the third and last wife, and the two previous marriages netted children whose age could make them my parents and grandparents.

Two to six, depending on the families. If you had a string of women who had their first child at 16 and counted from first child to first child, you'd get 6.25.

If someone is born in 1900 and has a child by a second wife in 1975, and that child doesn't have children until 2002, you have just two generations.

I computed the average age of my 8 great grand parents at the time their middle child was born. It came out to 33. That's my family. We have are average in that we have our share of teen-aged brides and people who waited until they were 30 and found someone desperate.

If you talk about the "Lost" generation, the "Baby Boom" generation, the "beat generation" and so on, they run about 10 years, so you get 10 of them in a century.
