I am trying to convince my daughter that even if she DOES get her first period in school, that it won't be too heavy and she will be able to just put on a pad after the fact. Also, that it won't be heavy enough the first time for it to go through her jeans, etc. What are others thoughts on this? I had my period sooo long ago, I don't even remember when it happened.

  1. I started mine one summer, but it was in public.

It's different for everyone, but usually the first period is pretty light. Just tell her to carry a pad with her to school everyday.

  2. Usuallly it is not heavy your first time. It is almost like if you don't wipe yourself after you ave a bowel movement and you get those dry brown mark in your underwear. that type of thing. if it is heavy, she should be able to feel the wetness in her underwear befor it goes through though, but most likey for the first time it should be more on the dry side.

  3. I times the start of my period with the time my mom started.

Everyday for a month a wore a pantie liner to make sure. Then one day in the bathroom I noticed I had gotten my period.

Thankfully I had made a 1st time period kit =]

    In it I had-

    wipes in a plastic baggy

    Tylenol for possible cramps

    pads

    extra undies

    & extra pants

It went well and I got through it fine!

  4. if it does happen at school she can just go to the nurse and if you think she is going to start you should tell her to take at least one to school.

  5. i only remember this happening once to me and i only leaked through because i wasnt aware that id come on and i was wearing a thin school summer dress...but you know it happens to every female at some stage in their life!! xx

  6. I had my first period at home, but over the years have had several experiences where my period started when I wasn't expecting it or when I couldn't do anything about it (like during a 45-minute cross-town bus ride).

I've never had blood soak through my jeans or be visible in any way to others.  Even the few times when the blood soaked all the way through my underwear it left a stain only on the INSIDE of my jeans.  I could see this maybe being a problem if you're wearing a skirt or pants made of a thinner material, but not with jeans.

Your daughter might feel better if she started keeping pads with her at school.  If she keeps three or four in her purse or backpack that should be enough to get her through the day even if she starts her period in the morning.  If she has a locker she may want to keep a whole bag of pads in there, and possible an extra pair of underwear.

  7. it has happened to me and it wasnt visible but if shes really worried she can wear a panty liner to school

  8. I'm 13 now, and I started mine in january. I was 12 at the time. My first one was very light, mine never started in school though... but I was at my dads house... so quite awkward.

My mum told me it wouldn't come back for a few months, asit was regulating itself. However, mine came back about 4 weeks later. It was really heavy and I didn't notice it at first, It wasn't until I went to go in the shower that I noticed it... and it was really heavy too... I dont't think anyone at school noticed either because no-one said anything to me.

  9. I actually don't know of anyone who got her first period at school and it was noticable by others. First period are pretty much always very light and won't amount to enough to leak through pants even if you let it go all day. I'd recommend giving her a small inconspicous bag to put in her backpack that contains some pads as well as a spare pair of underwear to change into when the time comes.

  10. Tell her to just keep a pad in her locker or backpack and that it will be ok for her to tell her teacher she has to go to the bathroom. If she's really worried tell her to bring a few in case she wants to change them out.

When I first had my period, it was literally a drop of blood, and then I didn't bleed again until the next month.

  11. i had my first period on my very 1st day of high school. it wasnt heavey enough for anyone to notice but it was embaressing asking the teacher for a pad.

  12. Tell her not to worry just explain to her to change her pad every break time and if she is so worried about it going through on to her jeans tell her to bring an extra pare of pants. ^^ i hope this helps

  13. Well.. when i got my period i thought it was something else [i thought it was poo..] so i put tissue in my underwear.. and for two days i did that and finally i asked my sister about it and she told me and gave me a pad... at least your daughter will know when she gets it =] unlike mee =/

  14. tell her this: i got my period, one day, went to bed and didnt even notice untill the next morning getting undressed for a shower

tell her it will be WAY to light for people to see, and send her to school with a pad in her backpack in case.

  15. My first time happened at school, and when I stood up from my seat after class, one of the boys noticed and gave me his sweater to wrap around my waist! You can tell her even as an adult, accidents like that can happen. I had a friend over a couple of months ago whose period started while at my apartment and she stained my couch, even though she was on the pill and knew roughly what day her period would start, you can only prepare so much. You can't sit at home half the month anticipating it and putting your life on hold. You can telll her to put a spare pair of jeans and underwear in her backpack 'just in case' she has an accident but most likely it won't happen until she urinates and sees it in the bathroom, so that plus being prepared might help put her at ease.

  16. Well I remember!  God, I was probably 12 or so, and I was wearing a white skirt to school that day.  Everyone saw it, but I didn't realize that I had my period.  I thought I would die of mortification!  So, I don't think a girl can always tell when she gets her first one, because of the fact that you really have no basis to know how it feels if you haven't had one before.  Just tell her, if she is uncomfortable and worried about it, that she should wear a panty liner just in case.

  17. I got my first period at school, but I didnt notice till I got home, and it didn't went throught the jeans. The first day will be kinda spotting, so it wont really be heavy enough for the rest to see. If she's so afraid she can wear panty liners, but, no, there is really nothing to worry about

  18. i got my period at a movie theater, it did leak on to my jeans but the stain was so small. it was probably as big as your daughters pinkie nail. if she really is that nervous she could always keep an extra pair of jeans in her locker.
