  1. According to the PCRM, most people should take their weight in pounds and multiply by 0.36 to get the number of grams.  Pregnant or lactating women, growing children and very active people may need more.  There is a healthy margin of error built in to that calculation, which is why it differs from the WHO recommendation (which is geared more towards calculating minimum protein requirements rather than optimal requirements.)

  2. According to the World Health Organization, you need 25-35 grams of protein a day.

  3. It's funny how people (usually meat-eaters) who know nothing about dietary nutrition keep harping on about how vegetarians and vegans won't get enough protein.

The recommended intake for protein is quite low, 50 grams on a 2000 calorie diet. It's far more common to get too much protein, than too little.

Vegetarians should be aware of other nutrients they need and account for them, such as iron, calcium, B12, D, Omega 3s, etc.

  4. 12% to 15% of of total calorie intake should be from proteins.

Let us assume you want to eat 2,000 toatal calories per day.. You should eat 240 to 300 calories in protein.

One gram of protein has 4 calories. So, you should eat 40 grams to 50 grams per day.

Proteins are available in all the foods. The meats fowls, fish, dairy, eggs, dried beans, nuts are better sources.
