I was in the UK last summer and I told some people I was from the capital of Canada. Before I finally told them the answer, they guessed:

Toronto

Montreal

Vancouver

Calgary

Edmonton

Regina

Halifax

Victoria

Winnipeg

Regina

Saskatoon

Quebec City

Whitehorse

Yellowknife

No joke. I was absolutely astounded that a) they knew of all these places and b) they still didn't guess Ottawa

I suppose it's the same way most people think Sydney is the capital of Australia. My Aussie friends were shocked that I knew it was Canberra.

Oh gosh - I'd only give it 10 percent at most!! :)

I like to 'tease' people from The States when they ask me where in Canada I am, and I say, "the capital".  There's usually a big pause, or if online, - another question, naturally - usually apologetic, but "Which is that again"? lol.  At least they ask, and don't assume, well - Most of the time that I'm from Toronto.:)
