Question:

How many guitar strings, 6 or 12?

I'm looking to buy a guitar, I'm just starting, and i didnt know whether to get a 6 or 12 string one. if i buy a 6 string will i still be able to play most songs still or will i be limited, i ask this because guitars can be expensive and i dont want to end up buying another one in the future when i get better because i cant play some songs

  1. Unless you plan to join Crosby, Stills and Nash... get the 6 string one... that is what 99 PERCENT of all guitar players have.


  2. if you are a beginner I say 6 string is the way to go. When you master that you may not even need a 12 string

  3. I agree with the other responders that a 6 string is the way to go, but if you get into guitar playing you're going to be buying more guitars in any case.

As you delve further into the world of guitar, you are going to discover really, really quickly that most people play 6 string guitars.  I'd be willing to bet that about 95 percent of the bands you listen to and have heard use 6 string guitars.   Plus, a 6 string guitar is going to be easier to find, and you're going to have a lot more variety to choose from.  

  5. Buy a 6 string. It's what majority of guitar players use and you won't be limited to what you can play. The possibilites are endless. :-)

  6. 6 String. It is basically the same instrument, except strings are doubled up, but unless you have the basics, it is a lot more difficult to play. The main difference between the two comes down to sound.
