All right, I have 12 guppies in a 10 gallon tank. Right now, Wal-Mart, (the only place to get pet c**p for 35 miles) has two tanks: 10 gallon, and 1.5 gallon. I was wondering if I should get a 1.5 gallon tank and put 1 or 2 guppies into it. I read somewhere that you should get 1/2 gallon for every fish. Would this be OK? (It comes with a filter so the water should be in good shape.)

Also, how much gravel should I put in it. I was thinking about 5 lbs.

  1. 1 guppy per gallon should be ok if it has a filter

  2. man if you put in just two they will pop out more than the spears family

  3. NOOOOO atlhough 1/2g per guppie is OK, i would NOT do this... guppies are tropical and should NOT be housed in anything less than 10g.... so reall, i would get another 10g and split the guppies in two groups, then your tans will be fully stocked =]

  4. I say go for the little 1.5 gallon with 3 males unless you want a billion guppies in a few monthes, lol! Just make sure you cycle it properly and you should be in good shape!=)

You can also go for other fish other than guppies, like tetras or corys, 3 corys in that tank would be cool, or 3 african dwarf frogs!!

  5. The rule is - One inch of fish per 1 gallon. So with guppies, it basically is one fish per gallon. Gravel depends on surface area.

With guppies, you could probably do 1/2 gallon per inch of fish, since they are big schoolers and pefer more of themselves.

  6. you can have 15-20 guppies in a 10 gallon, half a gallon for every fish or half a gallon for every guppy? only for guppies!

5 lbs. in a 1.5 gallon? thats kinda too much..
