  1. Some of the answers you have already gotten are good advice on how many to put in, but I haven't seen that anyone mentioned the factor of what kind of filtration you have.  Generally, the better the filtration, the more population tolerance.

Salt is not usually needed for guppys.

I have no experience with shrimp, and can't help you with that.

  2. You can keep about 10 male guppies in a 10 gallon planted tank if you keep up with your water changes.  If you're doing a mix of male and female guppies, stick with a trio (2 female and 1 male) and wait for fry!  You'll have plenty in no time.  ;P

Most aquatic plants do not deal well with salt and too much will definitely damage them.  If you add salt a very little at a time and quite slowly over the course of a few months with water changes, some hardy plants can tolerate it and bounce back, but guppies don't really require it and it's better not to salt planted tanks at all.

  3. 1 guppy per gallon. Keep in mind guppies breed like crazy. What I would do is get 3 females and 1 male pretty soon you'll have a full tank.

  4. Well, If you mixing male in female I would get 2 Female and 1 male. If your just doing male or just female then I would but like 10 and just get one shrimp or maybe two as long as you keep your tank clean.

    A$H!

  5. I believe it's one guppy per gallon of water. my mom used to raise them. *watch for babies, the mom's eat them, you have to seperate them* I don't know about the salt hurting the plants, you'd probably have to find plants for that environment.

  6. A 10 gallon tank can hold up to 10 guppies.  However you will have an issue if you put male and females in this tank as they will reproduce at an alarming rate.  So I wouldn't put anymore then 10 guppies in it and I would do all males. As they are a much more attractive fish then the females.

Also I personally would not put any salt in the water.    I dont necessarily think a little salt would hurt anything I simply dont think you need it.    I have raised guppys and am currently breeding several guppies and I dont use salt and have had no problems.

  7. i wouldnt do more than 50... you dont want to crowd the tank, but guppies are cool especially the fancy ones!!! ... make sure you have a good filtration system for them and that they have places to hide in there.

  8. You could have like 3 guppies to start because they will breed, and to limit population let the babys stay with the adults, they will get eaten, but some will survive, natural selection.  For shrimp you can have like 20 ghost shrimp in there cuz they molt and the shells get everywhere.  Don't add too much salt cuz there's plants, but you don't have to have salt for guppies.

  9. The rule of thumb is inches of adult fish per gallon. Guppies get about 1.5 to 2 inches, so I would put no more than 6 in the tank tops.

A little bit of salt will not hurt them or your plants.

  10. The rule is 1" of fish for every gallon of water.  Guppys grow to about about an inch, so between 8 and 9 makes sense.  They are very prolific fish, and you will have a tank full in no time, but they are pretty good at population control, too.
