How many vacant homes (houses, apartments, etc) are there in the world? What is the percentage of homeless people in the population in the United States, Canada, other countries?

in 2005 an approximated 1 billion did not have suitable housing and 100 million were totally homeless

There is no accurate answer for this question only approximations. Homeless people don't usually participate in the census and not all homeless people are in cities. Some are actually living in the woods.

And because most are transient it is hard to keep track of the overall population.
